Application opens for second edition of Sports Business MBA
Euroleague Basketball and Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) have officially opened the application process for the 2018-19 Sports Business MBA by EB Institute.
The blended learning MBA allows existing professionals in the sports to enhance their knowledge without sacrificing their work commitments. It focuses on a modern approach to sports business, consisting of six modules over three academic semesters, including internship and group work opportunities, ending with an MBA thesis.
In addition to the six VMU module leaders and Euroleague Basketball senior management delivering the curricular content, six guest academicians and six industry experts will educate and inspire students’ minds. The guest academicians hail from the University Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne, University of Bologna and LaSalle URL. The industry experts work at Desigual, FC Bayern Munich, German National Anti-Doping Agency, Mozzart, Nike and the NBA, representing companies and organizations at the forefront of the sports industry in a 360º approach.
Students enrolling for the course will be equipped with all the necessary tools to become professionals in a broad range of sporting companies, organizations and endeavors, including clubs, leagues, international and national federations, sports marketing agencies, sponsors, technology providers and media outlets, to name a few.
Students will obtain both the systemic understanding and working knowledge of all major areas of contemporary sports: Business, Marketing, Communication, Management, Economics & Finance, Law & Governance. As with other VMU study programs, students will be equipped with interdisciplinary knowledge and abilities, analytical thinking, critical thinking and capability to work in the globally dynamic labor market. VMU is a liberal arts university with studies based on the Harvard model.
The course awards 90 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) to graduates. The MBA uses blended learning, featuring the latest e-learning tools offering maximum flexibility and sustained interaction with professors on a unique 14-month journey, with four in-person sessions included.
In September 2018, the first session will take place at Euroleague Basketball’s headquarters in Barcelona, Spain. For five days, students will participate in the course introduction, learn educational tools for the e-learning platform and join team building sessions, all the while focusing on presentations by Euroleague Basketball senior management.
In January 2019, the second session will take place on VMU’s campus in Kaunas, Lithuania. For five days, students will focus on the academic course components, as well as spend two full days visiting Zalgiris Kaunas and the Zalgirio Arena, learning from club and arena management.
In May 2019, the third session will take place in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four host city. For four days, students will go behind the scenes at one of the largest sports events in the world. The focus will be on presentations from industry leaders, with past examples including senior executives from Adidas, AEG, ESPN, IMG, NBA, New Era, Spalding, Special Olympics, Turkish Airlines and Twitter, to name a few.
In October 2019, the fourth session will take place on VMU’s campus in Kaunas, Lithuania. For three days students will defend their MBA Thesis during a Viva, as well as celebrate a graduation ceremony in the basketball heartland of Lithuania.
